Maricopa County is by far the most populous county in Arizona – well over half of that state’s population lives there. It should not be surprising, then, that it is the largest and most important legal market in the state. It is also the home of Phoenix, the largest city in that state.

Accordingly, the Maricopa County Bar Association might be the second-most important legal association in the state after the State Bar.

Founded in 1914, the Maricopa County Bar Association is the largest voluntary bar association in Arizona, and has been since its founding. Because membership in the Maricopa County Bar Association is voluntary, not every attorney practicing in Maricopa County will necessarily be a member.

According to their mission statement, the Maricopa County Bar Association strives to serve the public by providing leadership in the improvement of law and the justice system, by promoting access to a fair, effective and affordable system of justice, by increasing public understanding of the law, and by promoting the highest ethical and professional standards in its members, among others.

They also serve the legal profession by working to preserve the honor and dignity in the profession, and by advocating the interests of the profession.

They operate a lawyer referral service allowing members of the public to seek legal services through a pool of licensed attorneys.
