The Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association (VHFCNBA) was formed in the 1950’s by a group of African Americans who fought against racial injustice in Florida. The founding members traveled through Florida spreading their message of representation for the poor and disadvantaged. They focused on the need for empowerment and self-determination for those individuals who had no legal representation in front of the law.

The VHFCNBA today has over a thousand members throughout Florida and continues to steadily grow every year. The Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter National Bar Association has also reached out to other communities such as the Haitian Lawyers Association to create a collegial environment within minority groups in Florida. Together, with other associations, the chapter hopes to achieve their goal of representation in the legal system for those who are the most underrepresented.
