Founded in 1992, the Iowa Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (IACDL) is dedicated to aiding the attorneys in Iowa that work in the legal practice area of criminal defense. As a bar association for the criminal defense attorneys of Iowa, the IADCL actively encourages research and education in the area of criminal defense work, furthers the administration of justice within the criminal courts, fosters communication between its members and the rest of the criminal defense legal community, and advances the rights and protections afforded to criminal defendants in Iowa. The Iowa Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers ensures that it stays focused on Iowa’s criminal defense community by expressly denying membership to lawyers that are employed as criminal prosecutors.

The IACDL helps its members in several ways. Attorneys belonging to the Iowa Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers can obtain continuing legal education credits by attending the numerous educational speaker events that the IACDL hosts throughout the year. The Iowa Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers also compiles criminal defense briefs from its members into an online brief bank for members to consult when they are looking for some guidance on a particular legal issue.
