Formed in 1989, the Iowa Intellectual Property Law Association (IIPLA) supports the intellectual property part of Iowa’s legal community. IIPLA strives to promote professionalism among its members and advance the practice of intellectual property law in the state. The Iowa Intellectual Property Law Association allows for lawyers, law students, patent agents, and law professors to become members.

IIPLA enhances the lives of its members in many ways. Members of the Iowa Intellectual Property Law Association have an opportunity to network with one another at IIPLA’s annual meeting. Lawyers belonging to IIPLA are able to enhance their knowledge of intellectual property law at various educational events that the Iowa Intellectual Property Law Association arranges for its members.

There are also several ways that IIPLA benefits the public. The Iowa Intellectual Property Law Association provides links to several online resources on its website for Iowa residents that are interested in learning more about intellectual property law. Each year, IIPLA awards grants to universities and other research institutions for the purposes of developing more intellectual property research and furthering the development of future intellectual property lawyers.
