Founded in 1935, the Lawyers Association of Kansas City (LAKC) was created by a group of lawyers that split from the Kansas City Bar Association over ideological differences. LAKC commits itself to the predominant goals of advancing the administration of justice, strengthening ties between its members and the general community, and enhancing its members’ professional lives. Membership to the Lawyers Association of Kansas City is open to all attorneys and law students in Kansas City. Membership discounts are available to newly admitted attorneys and government employees.

There are several ways in which the Lawyers Association of Kansas City assists its members. Newly admitted attorneys belonging to LAKC are given a chance to have a guided tour of the region’s courthouses arranged by the Lawyers Association of Kansas City Young Lawyers Section. LAKC provides its members several opportunities throughout the year to socialize and network with one another through the form of social events, including the annual golf tournament and the annual judicial reception.

In addition to benefiting its members, the Lawyers Association of Kansas City also provides extensive aid to the residents of Kansas City. Each year, LAKC raises money for the Legal Aid of Western Missouri through its Run For Justice 5k. Another annual event hosted by the Lawyers Association of Kansas City is the Santa Snow Ball, where families staying at local homeless shelters can enjoy a free dinner and numerous free holiday activities.
