In 1979, the Carolina Patent Trademark Copyright Law Association (CPTCLA) was formed by a group of intellectual property lawyers in Mecklenburg, North Carolina. The CPTCLA exists for the benefit of intellectual property attorneys in both North and South Carolina through increasing its members’ legal knowledge and advancing their careers. Additionally, the Carolina Patent Trademark Copyright Law Association takes an active role in promoting intellectual property law in South and North Carolina law schools by awarding two scholarships each year to law students at Clemson University and University of North Carolina that are interested in intellectual property law.

The CPTCLA strives to improve the professional lives of its members in several different ways. Attorneys that belong to the Carolina Patent Trademark Copyright Law Association are given the opportunity to increase their knowledge of intellectual property law by attending the continuing legal education courses that are a significant part of the CPTCLA’s semiannual conference. The Carolina Patent Trademark Copyright Law Association also lists several helpful intellectual property law websites and blogs that members can use in order to stay informed to the latest intellectual property legal news.
