Incorporated in 1988, the New Mexico Indian Bar Association (NMIBA) was established to serve the New Mexico lawyers with Native American descent. Additionally, NMIBA is the local affiliate for the National Native American Bar Association. While regular membership is restricted to only Native American attorneys and Native American law students, anyone that does not qualify for regular membership but is interested in being involved in the New Mexico Indian Bar Association may join as an associate member.

The National Native American Bar Association is committed to providing several membership perks to its members. Attorneys belonging to the New Mexico Indian Bar Association that are looking for new employment can obtain it by perusing the job announcements on NMIBA’s website. By hosting quarterly meetings, the New Mexico Indian Bar Association keeps its members informed of significant news that may impact New Mexico’s Native American community and their professional lives.
