Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys

Beginning in 1968, the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys (VADA) has worked to support the civil defense lawyers practicing in Virginia. Consequently, membership to the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys is open to licensed Virginian lawyers whose civil defense litigation work consists of at least one eighth of that lawyer’s overall practice. Attorneys working as corporate counsel are also permitted to join even if they do not participate in civil litigation, so long as their work responsibilities are compatible with the promotion of civil litigation defense.

Expanding its members’ knowledge and enhancing its members’ skills are important to the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. New members of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys are encouraged to attend VADA’s annual New Associates Boot Camp, where they receive a plethora of knowledge and tips that will aid them in their first years of being civil defense lawyers. The Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys also regularly holds seminars and workshops on topics such as trial tactics that are designed to help its members become better lawyers.

Many civil defense attorneys join the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys in order to connect with other members. The Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys has a number of different special interest sections, including Workers’ Compensation and Auto & Transportation Liability, in which members may interact with others practicing in that same field. Additionally, members of the VADA are encouraged to network with one another at the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys’ annual meeting, which is held at a different location in Virginia each year to allow for more members to attend the meeting.
