Virginia Trial Lawyers Association

Formed in 1959, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA) is dedicated to both furthering the skills and professional education of its members and to informing the public of the role of the trial lawyer. Anyone that is licensed to practice law in Virginia may join, but the majority of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s members spend the majority of their practice engaged in litigation. Legal assistants and paralegals that work for litigation attorneys are encouraged by the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association to join as allied members.

The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association makes available several benefits to its members that are useful in their profession lives. Members are able to take advantage of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association’s many online resources, including a database of over 500,000 expert witness depositions and list serves for many different practice areas. The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association also produces several continuing legal education courses for its members each year that are available in-person at its annual conference and online for those that cannot travel to the course location.

Aside from helping litigation attorneys, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association also provides significant aid to the general public. The Virginia Trial Lawyers Association helps future lawyers hone their advocacy skills by sponsoring and judging moot court competitions throughout the state. Additionally, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association works to educate the general public about their legal rights in the court system through various programs, including Peoples Law School and The Road to Virginia Justice.
