The Washington Defender Association (WDA) seeks to improve the quality of the criminal defense bar in Washington and provide funding for public defense organizations. This organization provides their members with access to the most recent developments in criminal law by providing resources, giving presentations, and publishing articles that deal with criminal law issues.

The WDA provides free trainings to members, a technical assistance program that helps members develop case strategy, and provides a membership directory. The Washington Defender Association also has an immigration project, children’s representation project, and provides an amicus curiae committee that writes briefs to help indigent defendants. Furthermore, the Washington Defender Association is responsible for publishing numerous scholarly articles in the area of criminal defense law.

Additional benefits of the WDA include a motion bank, expert directory, and CLE opportunities. To become a member of this organization you must fill out a short application and pay a $150 annual fee.
