Dominican Bar Association
Founded in 1990 in New York, the Dominican Bar Association currently represents thousands of lawyers and law students of Latin descent all across the country. This bar association was originally formed because of the hard times that faced many professionals that had left the Dominican Republic and come to New York City in the search for a better life. These attorneys and legal professionals found little to no support from the established legal community, and because of this, came together to form the Dominican Bar Association.
Since its creation in 1990, the Dominican Bar Association has shown a true commitment to the interests of the Latino legal professionals as well as the various Latino communities all across the county. The bar association has many volunteer legal clinics where indigent Latinos have come to get free legal advice about their situations. As well, the Dominican Bar Association has also petitioned lawmakers about legislation that would help the Latino community. As a result, this bar association now has a strong political voice.
