Originally called the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Bar Association until 2002, the Chesterfield County Bar Association was established in 1956. While the main purpose for the formation of the Chesterfield County Bar Association was to work at separating the city of Colonial Heights and the county of Chesterfield from the judicial circuit that they were a part of at the time, the goals of the Chesterfield County Bar Association have change over time. The current focus of the Chesterfield County Bar Association is in promoting the legal profession in Chesterfield and improving the practice of law in the county’s legal community.

The Chesterfield County Bar Association is a very active organization, and it sponsors many events throughout the year. A number of the events hosted by the Chesterfield County Bar Association are social, including the annual banquet and Christmas party. Other events are geared towards improving Chesterfield County Bar Association members as lawyers, such as the free continuing legal education seminars on legal ethics.
