The Colorado Indian Bar Association (CIBA) was formed in 1986 by a small but dedicated group of legal professionals who practiced Indian law within Colorado. The CIBA recognized that there needed to be stronger advocacy and recognition for Native Americans within the state. The CIBA provides support to Native American law students and advocacy for local and national issues that affect Native Americans.

Furthermore, Colorado Indian Bar Association provides support for its members through several benefits they provide. For example, the CIBA provides continuing legal education seminars and promotes job opportunities. Also, the CIBA promotes judicial appointments of Native Americans not only within Colorado but also nationally.
