Established in 1923, the Delaware State Bar Association (DSBA) has served the whole state of Delaware for over 90 years. As such, membership to the Delaware State Bar Association is open to anyone that is authorized to practice law in Delaware, and membership is entirely voluntary. Lawyers that are not authorized to practice law in Delaware, but are authorized to practice law in another state, may join the Delaware State Bar Association as associate members.
The Delaware State Bar Association exists to improve the legal profession in Delaware. One of the ways it furthers improvement in the legal profession in Delaware is by providing educational experiences for its members, including continuing legal education seminars and videos-on-demand. The DSBA also improves Delaware’s legal profession by giving its members access to ethics opinions online so that they may learn more about the practical application of the ethics rules that they must abide by as attorneys authorized to practice law in Delaware.
Lawyers in Delaware frequently join the Delaware State Bar Association for the many benefits that the Delaware State Bar Association makes available to its members. New members and other members going through a career transition are able to seek advice from other, more experienced members through the Lawyers helping Lawyers mentoring program. Members are able to network with other members that share their professional interests through the various committees within the Delaware State Bar Association. Additionally, members of the Delaware State Bar Association that are struggling in their professional or personal lives are able to obtain discreet help through the Delaware Lawyers Assistance Program.
The Delaware State Bar Association is also dedicated to benefiting the general public in Delaware. DSBA members are encouraged to donate blood through the DSBA Blood Bank. The Delaware State Bar Association also works to increase the general public’s access to legal aid by providing lawyers that do pro bono work with essential resources and help so that they can continue to provide pro bono work to the general public.
