The Georgia Council of Adoption Lawyers (GCAL) is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2010. Their mission is to ensure adoption lawyers receive support in performing their duties. GCAL also drafts amicus briefs to provide insight on how best to handle complex adoption situations.

GCAL has several different committees which include an advocacy committee, pro bono committee, public relations committee, and a technology committee. These different committees seek to accomplish GCAL’s goals through press releases, offering legal assistance to those in need, and maintaining GCAL’s website.

To become a member of the Georgia Council of Adoption Lawyers you must be a member in good standing of the Georgia State Bar and you must agree to exceed the professionalism standards required by the Supreme Court of Georgia. Membership in GCAL is limited and the admissions committee must approve of a potential applicant. To receive consideration from the admissions committee a potential member must devote over 50% of their caseload to adoption practice, be able to attend 50% of GCAL’s meetings, and be able to provide some benefit to GCAL. Potential members will also be required to pay a $150 annual due.
