Formed in 1984, the Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys (IOWA) strives to be beneficial to the female lawyers working and living in Iowa, as well as the female residents of the state. IOWA is committed to assisting women lawyers advance professionally, building and maintaining a community among its members, and draw attention to serious issues that are impacting the professional lives of female attorneys. Although the Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys is focused on Iowa lawyers that are female, membership is open to all attorneys and law students in Iowa that are committed to the furtherance of women in the legal profession.

IOWA offers several methods in which its members can grow professionally. Lawyers belonging to the Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys that need to obtain continuing legal education credits have an opportunity to do so by attending the educational events that IOWA arranges for its members. The Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys allows for its members to reach out to one another and stay connected through its listserv.

Aside from helping its members, IOWA also strives to be beneficial to women living in the state of Iowa. The Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys regularly puts together programs for female students attending schools in Iowa to inform them about the legal profession and how they can become a lawyer. Members of IOWA mentor at-risk youth through the mentorship program that the Iowa Organization of Women Attorneys has put together with the Iowa Juvenile Home & Training Center.
