Established in 1925, the Iowa Chapter of the National Bar Association (INBA) is the bar association’s original chapter. The INBA was the headquarters for the National Bar Association when the association was initially established by a group of African American attorneys that were working in Iowa, but the headquarters have since moved to Washington, D.C. However, the Iowa Chapter of the National Bar Association continues to support the African American lawyers that work and live in Iowa.

In addition to benefiting Iowa’s African American legal community, the INBA also strives to help the general public in a number of ways. Each year, the Iowa Chapter of the National Bar Association encourages lawyers to engage in civil rights work in the community by giving an award to one attorney that best represents this ideal. The INBA also raises funds for public art displays as part of its INBA Public Art Project.
