Originally named the Marion County Lawyers Club, the Marion County Bar Association (MCBA) was established in 1925. It was founded by African-American lawyers working in Marion County as a result of them being denied membership to other bar associations based on their race. Since 1925, the MCBA has continued to support minority attorneys that practice law in Marion County.

The Marion County Bar Association is very active in the local community. Members of the MCBA that wish to provide free legal aid to the community frequently do so by volunteering their time through the Going To Church legal consultation program that is held at local churches after religious services. The MCBA also reaches out to future attorneys through its mentorship program at the Shortridge Magnet High School for Law and Public Policy, which pairs students that are interested in pursuing a career in the legal field with members of the Marion County Bar Association that are interested in the future generation of lawyers.
