Founded in 1873, the St. Joseph County Bar Association (SJCBA) exists in order to further the administration of justice and to promote and support the legal community in both St. Joseph County and the surrounding area. Since St. Joseph County is located along the Michigan-Indiana border, members of the St Joseph County Bar Association do not necessarily have to be licensed to practice in Indiana, but may be licensed to practice in Michigan instead. Membership for the SJCBA is also open to paralegals, law students, and judges.

The St. Joseph County Bar Association works diligently to benefit its members in many different ways. Lawyers that are a part of the SJCBA often seek to gain more legal knowledge by attending the numerous continuing legal education courses that the St. Joseph County Bar Association coordinates for its members. Another way that the SJCBA aids its members is by helping them to build their practices and get new clients through the St. Joseph County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral program.
