Established in 1978, the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers is the predominant Irish-American legal organization in Michigan. Anyone can become a member of the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers, but it is a requirement that all members must like the Irish culture. The seemingly odd requirement for membership is due to the fact that many of the bar association’s social events have to do with the culture of Ireland, such as the annual St. Patrick’s Day Brunch and sponsored happy hours at Irish-American pubs.

The Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers also provides multiple opportunities to its members by which they can improve professional careers. Throughout the year, the organization arranges for speakers ranging from judges to legal commentators to give lectures to its members on current legal issues that many of the members face in their professional careers. This organization also allows for its members to obtain pro bono cases through its partnership with the Legal Aid Clinic at the Most Holy Trinity Parish in Detroit.
