The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (WLAM) was created to fight for the equal representation of women attorneys in the legal profession in Michigan. Its members are, therefore, almost exclusively women, though not all over the members are lawyers or work in Michigan. Members can further choose to join regional chapters that allow them to connect with other members located near them on a more frequent basis.

The WLAM and its members are active in promoting women’s opportunities to participate in the legislative and judicial processes. When it appears that women are not being given a full and far opportunity to participate in the legislative and judicial processes in Michigan, the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan brings attention to this act of injustice by reaching out to the media, filing amicus briefs on resulting civil rights litigation, and encouraging its members to participate in protests and other means of making sure that their opinion on the issue is heard and understood by the general public. The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan also engages in charitable works to improve the lives of women in the local community, such as fundraisers for breast cancer medical research and clothing drives for women’s homeless shelters.
