Created in 2005, the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City (AABAKC) exists to provide assistance to the Asian American attorneys living and working in the Kansas City region. As the main Asian American legal association for the Kansas City metropolitan area, the AABAKC is the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association affiliate for Kansas City. The predominant focus of the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City is encouraging the professional development of its members, advancing and protecting the rights of Asian Americans living in Missouri, representing the interests of Asian Americans within the greater legal community of Kansas City, and fostering community involvement among its members.
The AABACK provides aid to its members in a variety of ways. Lawyers belonging to the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City are afforded several chances throughout the year to network with one another and with other important leaders in the local community, such as the Meet the Leaders Luncheon and the annual dinner. Members of the AABACK that wish to become more informed about various legal topics may attend a number of free continuing legal education seminars hosted by the association.
Aside from helping its members, the AABAKC also strives to be beneficial to the residents of Kansas City and Missouri’s Asian Americans. Members of the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City provide guidance to local law students by participating in the AABAKC’s mentorship program. Minority law students can benefit from the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City by attending minority job fairs and information panels hosted by the association.
