Created in 1962, the North Carolina Association of Municipal Attorneys (NCAMA) is an affiliate of the North Carolina League of Municipalities. NCAMA exists to establish and maintain a community among the municipal attorneys in North Carolina, to act as a liaison between municipal attorneys and other North Carolina municipal associations, and to keep its members informed of developments within the North Carolina municipal legal community. While only attorneys employed by municipalities in North Carolina may be active members, lawyers that are a part of law firms regularly retained by municipalities are allowed to join as associate members.

NCAMA offers a number of benefits to its members. Lawyers belonging to the North Carolina Association of Municipal Attorneys that want to take a more active role in forming new laws affecting municipalities enjoy being an active part of the Legislative Committee, which advises the North Carolina League of Municipalities on legislation that may affect municipalities. Members wanting to know more about certain aspects of municipal law regularly attend the semiannual conference, where they are given the opportunity to attend a number of different continuing legal education classes.
