The Dayton Bar Association (DBA) started in 1883, but was officially formed in 1925 and it has steadily grown over the last 100 years to become one of the largest bar associations in Ohio. Currently the DBA has over 1,500 members and an executive office located in the Schuster Performing Arts complex.

The mission of the Dayton Bar Association is to ensure justice is administered fairly, the integrity of legal profession is upheld, and to promote camaraderie among legal professionals.

The Dayton Bar Association hosts numerous events and participates in a variety of community outreach programs. The DBA routinely holds bar association events such as luncheons, seminars, and CLE’s, but also has some specialized outreach programs such as Wills for Heroes. Wills for Heroes is a program that provides police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, and other first responders with free estate planning advice from Dayton Bar Association members. The Dayton Bar Association also hosts a diversity day, a golf tournament, and offers a lawyer referral service to members of the public.

Membership in the Dayton Bar Association is open to lawyers, judges, law students, paralegal students, and other legal professionals. To become a member of the DBA you must fill out an application and pay an annual due which ranges from 0 to $130 dollars. There are also numerous specialty section of DBA , which potential members can join a few of the sections in the DBA are the Environmental Law Section, the Corporate Section, or the Taxation Section.
