Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers

Incorporated in 1973, the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (TACDL) strives to support criminal defense attorneys practicing in Tennessee and to ensure the fair administration of criminal justice in the state’s courts. Only lawyers that actively defend parties in criminal litigation are permitted to join the TACDL. Law students that are interested in a future criminal defense career are also allowed to join the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in order to provide them with the opportunity to learn about the reality of criminal defense work.

The TACDL gives its members several opportunities to improve their professional lives. Each year, lawyers belonging to the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers are able to hone their skills as criminal defenders and increase their knowledge at the Tennessee Criminal Defense College, which is a weekend-long continuing legal education event. For members in each of Tennessee’s major cities, the TACDL hosts roundtable meetings each month, where its members can network with one another and discuss important issues that the criminal defense field is currently facing.
