The Alexandria Bar Association was established in 1928 to serve the legal community of Alexandria. Although the Alexandria Bar Association is focused on being beneficial to the city if Alexandria, anyone licensed to practice law in Virginia and all law students are allowed to join the association. However, only licensed attorneys that either live or work in Alexandria are able to join the Alexandria Bar Association as full active members with voting rights.

Lawyers frequently join the Alexandria Bar Association to take advantage of the many benefits that the association provides for its members. Several of the Alexandria Bar Association’s members participate in the association’s many community outreach programs, such as pro bono service days and educational outreach for troubled youths. The Alexandria Bar Association also sponsors many continuing legal education classes throughout the year in order to allow its members to easily fulfill their continuing legal education requirements.
