The Richmond Chapter of the Federal Bar Association supports the legal community that practices federal law in the eastern part of central Virginia. Only attorneys practicing federal law within the Richmond Division of the Eastern Districtof Virginia may join the Richmond Chapter of the Federal Bar Association as active members. However, law students living or attending school within the confines of the Richmond Division and anyone licensed to practice law in Virginia that does not qualify as or wish to be an active member may join the Richmond Chapter of the Federal Bar Association as an associate member.

One of the most important goals for the Richmond Chapter of the Federal Bar Association is aiding in the professional growth of its members. The Richmond Chapter of the Federal Bar Association promotes the advancement of its members professional education by putting together continuing legal education programming that focuses on the practice of federal law. Also, the Richmond Chapter of the Federal Bar Association supports the professional development of new members by providing educational seminars introducing these new members to the intricacies of federal practice in the Richmond Division, which includes lectures on every component of the local federal courts.
