Find a Lawyer Now!The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is a national organization that maintains a chapter in Washington State. This organization was founded in 1946 and currently has over 10,000 members from the legal community who practice and teach immigration law. The mission of this association is to promote justice, advance the quality of immigration law, and provide educational opportunities for members.
Member attorneys of the AILA have helped thousands of U.S. families apply for permanent residency of their family members living in other countries as well as highly skilled workers from abroad legally navigate their way through America’s immigration system. The national organization also hosts CLE’s, events, and publishes a newsletter.
The Washington State Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyer Association has approximately 275 members, hosts a naturalization day, and offers multiple pro bono opportunities. Continuing Legal Education opportunities in Washington are offered on the first Monday of the month at the office of Perkins Cole in Seattle.
Becoming a member of the AILA is more difficult than most bar associations. It can be obtained by being employed by the Federal Government, being licensed to practice law for three years with no discipline, or by being a law professor. There are a few other ways to become a member of this organization, but any potential member’s application must be reviewed and accepted by the American Immigration Lawyers Association committee.
