Loren Miller Bar Association

The Loren Miller Bar Association (LMBA) was founded in 1968 and is a civil rights organization dedicated to addressing the social and economic issues facing the African American community in Washington. The Loren Miller Bar Association is an affiliate member of the National Bar Association which is the oldest minority bar association and has focused on protecting the rights of African Americans. The National Bar Association was founded in 1952 since the American Bar Association was segregated and would not allow members of the black community to participate.

The Loren Miller Bar Association hosts numerous social events, maintains several specialty committees dedicated to serve specific needs of the organization, and provides legal resources to members of their community. The social events hosted by the Loren Miller Bar Association include a holiday party, annual banquet, picnic, and networking dinners. The organization also maintains a scholarship committee dedicated to help qualifying law students and a professional development committee that provides CLE’s as well as other opportunities for professional growth. The LMBA further contributes to their community by providing judicial evaluations of judges in their community.

There are six different types of membership in the Loren Miller Bar Association:

1. Public Sector or Academia membership
2. Judicial membership
3. Solo Practice/ Small Firm Membership
4. In House Counsel/Large Firm Membership
5. Friend of the Loren Miller Bar Association membership
6. Student membership

To become a member you must fill out an application detailing what type of member you want and pay the associated annual dues which range from $0 for students to $150 for In House Counsel/Large firm members who have been working for 10+ years.
